A PRESSURE group that wants to see a new proposal for homes in Alresford has released the results of their exhibition.

More than 700 people turned out to the Professional Group’s display last month. The aim was to generate debate about an alternative plan for where nearly 400 homes in the town could go.

In a statement the group said 270 people filled in questionnaires and 12 per cent “unequivocally supported the draft plan” for building off Sun Lane.

They said 79 per cent felt they had not been adequately consulted, 67 per cent believed the proposed new junction onto the bypass would be unsafe and unsustainable, and 71 per cent did not believe a new industrial estate at the bottom of Sun Lane was the best way to provide new employment opportunities for the town.

Jeremy Collins, of the group, said: “There are lots of great ideas and a lot of very hard work behind this exhibition, but ultimately what comes next has to be about what’s right for Alresford and as so many people felt their views had not been considered in the draft local plan, it’s really important we listen to what people say.”

In July the town council voted to support building off Sun Lane, as part of Winchester City Council’s Local Plan Part Two. Under the scheme 500 homes need to be built in Alresford between 2011 and 2031.

The group say they now have enough data to create an alternative plan, and will reveal it to the public at an exhibition on November 22.
