A NEWLY-formed residents group in Alresford wants to make their street a ‘no cold calling zone’.

The Nursery Road Residents Group is following in the footsteps of neighbouring street Ash Walk, which recently joined the county council scheme.

NRRG has submitted its application and now needs 60 per cent approval from residents before it is made official.

Sam Kerr-Smiley, chairman, said: “We get quite high numbers of cold callers in this area, charity collectors or ‘home improvements’ generally. It’s got to the stage where we were getting so frustrated that we felt we had to act. Especially as we know there a number of older people in the area who may be vulnerable to unscrupulous sales people.”

He said it takes around three months before the zone is made official.

The hundredth NCCZ was recently set up in the Winchester district, in St Anne’s Close, Badger Farm.

The zones are coordinated by Hampshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service, but are set up by residents in partnership with police.
