1. Soldiers' Journey: From home to war 1914-1918 – Friday

Between 1914 and 1918 over 8 million troops from all over the British Empire entered Hampshire to train, prepare and wait for their departure from the Southampton ports towards the various theatres of war around the world. The exhibition Soldiers' Journey tells about Hampshire contributions of military and civilian soldiers throughout the Great War.

2. Casting Traces – Friday

Inspired by Pail Auster’s novel The New York Trilogy, this cross-genre 45 minute promenade performance invites the audience in to a unique dance experience set within an architect-designed paper labyrinth.

3. New Forest Walking Festival – all weekend

Choose from more than 30 expert-led walks through the New Forest, running until November 2. Hikes include wildlife walks, history walks, family strolls, accessible walks, food trails and activity walks. 

4. Autumn Steam Spectacular – all weekend

The Watercress Line’s Autumn Steam Gala in Alresford kicks off today running until Sunday. Ticket price: £25 for adults, three-day pass £50. Children aged two-16 £13, children under two go free. Family ticket (two adults and two children) £63.

5. Pumpkin day at Riverford Park – Saturday

Family-focused celebration of autumn at Sutton Scotney with children’s activities, farm tours, pumpkin carving and seasonal food, from 11am-4pm.

6. Amigos Line Dance Classes – Friday

7. Beer, Food Music Festival – all weekend

The King Charles pub at Kings Worthy starts with Brimfields Autumn Market from 10am-4pm, followed by Fleetwood Bac supported with Soul and Fire and Josh Savage. Sunday sees roasts and a ukulele band. Runs until Monday.

8. Marwell Zoo’s Halloween Festival – Saturday

Enjoy a trip on a ghoulish ghost train, take part in pumpkin carving and watch all the animals eat pumpkin treats as part of a pumpkin enrichment programme, when Marwell Zoo’s Halloween Festival kicks off this weekend. Normal admission prices apply.

9. Jazzie B & the Soul II Soul sound system - Friday

RnB/soul bands return to The Concorde Club tonight to celebrate Southampton’s tenth Black History Month. The group who were nominated for five Brit Awards are best known for chart-topper Back to Life. Ticket price: £32 for members and £40 for non members. From 9.30pm.

10. Stand under a street lamp in Bishop’s Waltham – all weekend
