A WALK to raise money for the Ropley church that burned down will be held next weekend.

The walk on Sunday, September 21, takes place between Ropley and Alresford to raise funds for St Peter’s that suffered severe damage in June.

The Watercress Line is donating a free train ride from Alresford back to Ropley for those taking part.

There will be three routes catering for differing abilities, starting between 10-10.30am. Starting from the Parish Hall a seven and a quarter mile route and from Ropley Station both a four and a half mile route and a road route of three and a half miles.

“Rover” tickets for dogs for the return journey for just £1. Return trains leave Alresford at 1pm, 1.45pm, 3pm and 3.45pm.

Meanwhile The Charnwood Trio will perform at Ropley Primary School on October 4, and the Friends of St Peter’s hope to raise £700.

Alison Wood, chairman, said: “It’s to help with the church appeal so that we can repair or rebuild our church. The school, trio and Ropley Music are giving their time for free. They have all been so generous.”

It starts at 7.30pm on October 4 and includes an alcoholic or soft drink and nibbles. Tickets cost £12, or £6 for under-16s, and are available by calling Ms Wood on 01962 773603, or online at ropleymusic.co.uk.
