RESIDENTS near Alresford were treated to a heritage spectacle last week as steam engines of the Mid Hants Railway were transported through the town.
The watercress line’s trains were being transported on the back of low-loader lorries in time for a gala at Somerset.
Sue Clements, office manager at the Alresford station, said: “They go to visit the West Somerset railway. They will be running several engines on and down the lines when they’re there.
“They are allowed to run on heritage and it’s also cheaper for them to get there this way. Not all of them have a main line connection which is why they’re being transported by lorry.”
