Stockbridge and Twyford police stations are to be put on the market later this month.

Hampshire Police plans to sell several stations and has announced that Stockbridge, along with Twyford and Old Basing near Basingstoke, are the first to go.

The station, in Stockbridge High Street, has been closed to the public for some time and police officers moved to a police office in Stockbridge Fire Station in June this year.

Following a review of the estate, in September this year Hampshire Police Authority approved revised plans for the buildings Hampshire Police will operate from in the future.

The force is attempting to save £50m by 2015.

Alresford station on Station Road is also set for sale with the officers moving to the fire station on Pound Hill.

Hampshire Police said the aim is to promote efficient working and provide modern, appropriate facilities to fit the current and future policing needs and enable officers and staff to provide the best possible service to the public, whilst achieving value for money.

The police buildings that are no longer needed by the force will be offered for sale over the coming months and years.

A police spokeswoman said no building would be removed from its estate until a suitable alternative location is found and in most cases the police stations that are being sold have not been open to the public for a long period of time.

The capital raised from the sale of the buildings will go towards making the Estate Development Programme, which includes a new HQ, police campus, four new police investigation centres and an extensive refurbishment programme, cost neutral.
