Test Valley Borough Council offices at Romsey have gone on the market.

The Duttons Road offices are now being marketed for sale or rent following TVBC’s purchase of the former magistrates’ court in Church Street from Hampshiere County Council.

The old court building will become the council’s customer service facility in February next year.

The one-acre site at Duttons Road is being marketed for sale or rent by BNP Paribas.

A TVBC spokesman said there was no guide price for the freehold as the council was looking to secure the best deal for the council tax payer and would assess bids as they came forward.

However, a tenant looking to rent the property would be asked to stump up £90,000 per year.

Parties interested in Duttons Road should contact the company direct to arrange a viewing, though further authority would be required from the full council before any sale of the site.

TVBC members voted in June to sell off Duttons Road and purchase the former magistrates’ court, in Church Street, as part of a restructuring intended to help save £1m a year.

About 65 staff will be relocated to the council’s Andover headquarters, with the first group set to move this weekend and the last in February next year.

Planning and building services staff in Romsey will join with their colleagues in Andover, though staff telephone numbers and email addresses will remain the same and post will be redirected.

For the time being, residents should continue to visit the customer service facility in Duttons Road, which will provide the same support as now, with duty housing, planning and building control officers available to help and advise.

Crosfield Hall, which reopened last month following extensive refurbishment, will take over as the regular Romsey venue for council meetings from January next year.
