Chandler's Ford schoolchildren run 1,000 miles in 24-hours
HUNDREDS of Chandler's Ford schoolchildren teamed up to run 1,000 miles in 24-hours for charity.
Around 250 staff and pupils at Scantabout Primary School, Chandler's Ford, ran thousands of laps of the school field last Friday (Oct 12).
Despite bad weather and muddy conditions they managed 620 miles before they were relieved by parents, siblings, teachers, local estate agent Adam Sparks and members of Scantabout Ladies Athletic Group who carried on the challenge on Friday evening.
After restarting the following morning, the feat was finally completed at 12.40pm with the school also hosting a family fun day.
The event has so far raised £2,500 which will go towards building an outdoor classroom. PTA member Alison Harry, who has two sons at the school, said: “The event could not have taken place with some valuable help from local businesses in Chandler's Ford. Most notably to be thanked are Sparks Ellison Estate Agents who sponsored the advertising and ran some miles and the Co-op who provided the goodies for the runners after completing their run.”
