A WINCHESTER golf club has raised a record breaking amount for Parkinson’s UK.

Avington Park Golf Club presented the charity with £3,900 at the club in the Itchen Valley on Tuesday (Oct 9).

Jane Bellamy, captain of the ladies team, said everyone at the club was thrilled because it was the most they had ever raised before.

She said: “It was fantastic and everyone was delighted. We have been working all year raising money through entry fees for competitions and events like a ladies’ coffee morning. We also raised £900 through donations alone at our captains’ day in July, which was brilliant.”

Myra Clare, 80, of Harestock, accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity, where she has worked for 23-years.

She was joined by members of the club and Robert Stent, owner of Avington Park.

The money will be used to fund a research program in Southampton.
