HAMPSHIRE'S Fire and Rescues Service is to be boosted by a new deal with a neighbouring service.

The Memorandum of Understanding between Hampshire and East Sussex has refreshed a previous arrangement and means the two services can request support for each other during large-scale incidents.

John Bonney, chief officer for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "As one of our neighbours, we already work closely with our colleagues in West Sussex in protecting the communities on both sides of the border.

“This agreement will allow both services to provide further valuable assistance at times of the greatest strain on our resources."

The new agreement will run until the end of July 2014.
