A thousand runners take part in Hursley 10k race

HEAVY rain was not enough to deter around 1000 runners in Hursley on Sunday (September 23).
The Hursley 10k race saw Ant Gritton take first place with a time of 35:41, while Graham Broome of Southampton Athletics won the 5k race with a time of 19:36.
The event, a multi-terrain run across Hampshire fields and Forestry Commission land, is now in its sixth year.
Hursley Estate was again the setting, but with a different route this time around. Course organiser, Richard Baker, said: “Year six and yet another new route, well not completely new, as we have to start and finish the course on the avenue of trees which run alongside the Monarchs Way from John Keble School.”
Proceeds from the race will go to the Friends of Hursley School and Village of Hursley projects and this year saw the reintroduction of the 5K race and a fun-run for youngsters.
A spokesman for the event said: “A massive thank you to everyone who took part for making it an incredible event, despite what the weather threw at us!”
