THE University of Winchester has created a new religious post to help students.
The Rev Dr Peter Waddell, pictured, will become the first Dean of Chapel at the university next month.
Bishop of Winchester, The Right Rev Tim Dakin, will officially grant Rev Waddell permission to practice as a priest in Winchester at a ceremony at the university chapel on October 1.
Rev Waddell said: “My role will be a fusion of teaching, chapel and pastoral responsibilities, as well as helping to articulate and celebrate the meaning of the university’s Christian foundation. “I’m also looking forward to having the opportunity to work with Winchester Cathedral , as well as to building lasting partnerships within the Diocese.”
Rev Waddell was born in Northern Ireland and attended both Oxford and Cambridge universities. He was ordained in 2003 and is a former chaplain, Pastoral Dean and director of studies in Theology at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.
