Winchester to celebrate nightlife award. Winchester to celebrate nightlife award.

Winchester will celebrate its nightlife with a week of live music, photographic exhibitions and special offers at a variety of restaurants.

The week is part of the Purple Flag accreditation scheme, a town and city centre award - similar to the Blue Flag for beaches - backed by the government, police and local business. Purple Flag cities have proven themselves to be a safe and enjoyable place to spend a night out. For the more adventurous, there will be ghost and lamplight guided walks, and a free evening greeters' service, when people can be shown around the town by someone who knows it inside out.

Chris Turner, executive director of Winchester Business Improvement District , said: “Purple Flag Week is about the businesses and the community joining together to show that we are proud of our city and highlight all that is excellent about Winchester. We hope that everyone will join in the celebration.” Purple Flag week runs from Saturday, September 22 to Sunday, September 30.
