Winchester shop staff row more than 100 miles for charity
WINCHESTER shop workers took part in a round the world rowing challenge at the end of last month.
Using static rowing machines, staff from Tesco Extra in Andover Road joined colleagues around the country on August 31 to row 24,901 miles.
To complete the journey staff from each store rowed 107 miles combined, with the company aiming to raise £500,000 for Cancer Research UK through their efforts.
The staff also got a helping hand from Hampshire & Isle of Wight army cadets who provided the rowing machines.
Store manager Seton Howard said: “Everyone in our store is really getting into the spirit of the rowing challenge, it is a fantastic opportunity to raise thousands of pounds and support Cancer Research UK's doctors, nurses and scientists.
“It's great to hold such a fun event at the front of the store and I must extend my thanks to the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Army Cadets for their support with sourcing the rowing machines and hopefully providing that bit of extra muscle to help us go the extra mile.”
