THE University of Winchester has teamed up with a city environmental group to host a conference on renewable energy next week.
Winchester Action on Climate Change will join university staff to discuss a new report on renewable energy in the district and discuss the options to cut down on carbon emissions.
Speakers will address both business and community-led projects including Darren Cummins, development manager of EDF Renewable Energy Projects, which is proposing to build a wind farm near Micheldever.
Ernie Shelton, WinACC chairman, said: “We want to see much more renewable energy generation in Winchester district to help reduce the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. Our starting point is to support proposals in principle though we recognise that each scheme will have disadvantages as well as advantages.
“This conference will give people the opportunity to consider whether renewable energy schemes can make a real impact on the carbon footprint of the district.”
The event starts at 6.30pm-9.30pm on Tuesday, July 17 at the West Downs Centre in Romsey Road.
