SOME 1,275 homes in the Stanmore, Romsey Road and St Cross areas of Winchester were hit by a power cut on Tuesday morning.

Power was lost at 7.30am, including the traffic lights on Romsey Road, but restored to 1,000 homes by 9.30am, said a spokesman for Southern Electric today. The other 275 were back by 1.50pm.

It was caused by an underground cable fault in the high voltage network. The spokesman apologised for any inconvenience.
