SPRING sales are not the only thing window shoppers in Winchester have spied recently.

A group of 44 second year students at Winchester School of Art have been hosting an exhibition in an empty shop in The Brooks Centre for the past two weeks.

The exhibition, called ‘Beyond These Limits’ is a chance for the students to show off their work to the public outside of their university course.

Lydia Keith, 27, came up with the idea and said students do not usually get a chance to stage an exhibition until their third year.

said: “We thought it would be really great to do something outside the university and to be more ambitious and test ourselves to see how we would get on. So far it has gone really well and we had well over 200 people come to a private view with hundreds more coming along during the weeks.”

Lydia, of Bank Street, Bishop’s Waltham, added: “Months and months of hard work has gone into this and we are really pleased with the result. There is a lot of creativity in Winchester but we do not always get to see it so it’s great to raise the profile of the artists and have people notice as they are walking by.”

Fellow student Liss Andrews, 20, of Longfield Road, Winnall, said: “I have really loved taking part in this exhibition. It’s great exposure and experience and one of the things it teaches you to do is to treat your work more professionally.
