DIAMOND jubilees do not happen every day, so villagers in Compton and Shawford are going the extra mile to mark the milestone.
Not content with buying bunting, more than 20 volunteers of all ages decided to make their own.
They met at Shepherds Down School in Compton earlier this month (May), with the kind permission of the head teacher.
In two-and-a-half hours, the volunteers produced more than 80 metres of decorations, including red, white and blue pompoms.
The bunting will be displayed at the Memorial Playing Fields in Compton throughout the jubilee weekend.
The events there will feature a ball on the evening of Saturday, June 2, which has already sold out.
The day after there will be a treasure hunt at the same venue followed by a cricket match and cream teas.
On Monday, June 4, the Memorial Playing Fields will host a fete. The events will conclude with jubilee walks in the parish on Tuesday, June 5 followed by lunch at the Bridge Inn, Shawford.
