THIEVES have stolen a valuable statue from a military museum near Stockbridge.
A bronze eagle statue was taken from outside the Museum of Army Flying in Middle Wallop, on Friday (Feb 10) evening.
It is thought to be worth around £10,000 and had been outside the museum for three years.
It appears the statue, which weighed around 100kg and had a wingspan of about 1.5 metres, was forced off its concrete stand and taken away in a vehicle.
Neal Martin, CEO of the museum, said: “At the end of the day it’s only a bronze eagle statue but its very annoying as there is no way we are going to get it back. A number of the staff are upset because it was the centre piece of our memorial garden.”
He added the museum would replace the statue in some form but nothing had been decided yet.
The museum is home to a variety of military history with more than 35 fixed and rotary wing aircraft on display.
