A KINGS Worthy resident has succeeded in a campaign to increase awareness of horse riding on local roads.
Alex Williams contacted the county council in December after a friend of his partner’s was involved in an accident.
Mr Williams, 20, said: “A while ago my partner was out riding with some friends in Kings Worthy. It was a quiet day, but then as she was riding, lots of cars and lorries came along and didn’t slow down or stop.
“It caused one of the horses to spook, and one of her friends fell off.
“She wasn’t hurt, but it was a lucky escape and so I went to the council to get something done about it.”
Now the council has put up a sign near his home in Springvale Road, just a month after he raised the issue.
Mr Williams, a banker, said: “I’m very pleased the council have put up the sign but I want more in the area.
“I’m also going to look into the campaign to get a 30mph speed limit in Kings Worthy, because at the moment its 40mph and it should not be.”
