Brochures detailing the 2012 Music in Romsey season are now out.

Highlights include a gala concert hosted by Esther Rantzen in aid of Parkinsons UK on June 9 which will feature the South Wales Male Choir, Romsey Youth Choir and harpist Benjamin Creighton-Griffiths.

On July 7 Romsey Choral Society and Southampton Symphony Orchestra team up for a Jubilee concert with patriotic works by British compsosers, Elgar,Arne, Parry,Vaughan Williams and Walton.

The chairman of Music in Romsey, abbey vicar, the Rev Tim Sledge, welcomed the Mayor of Romsey and Deputy Mayor of Test Valley together with other guests and volunteer helpers to a reception in the church rooms for the official launch of the 2012 season of concerts and recitals.

Mr Sledge commented on the value of local cultural events and thanked all those who contributed to the concerts.

He then presented cheques to representatives of two charities, Romsey Family Support Group and George’s Trust, following collections made at the 2011 series of lunchtime recitals.

The 2012 concert series together with details of lunchtime recitals and organ recitals in Romsey Abbey are given in the new brochure, supported this year by the White Horse Hotel, Romsey.

The season begins on March 10 with a concert by Southampton University Symphony Orchestra.

Full details can be obtained from the Abbey and Romsey Tourist Information Centre in Church Street, where tickets will be available.
