THE new season at Winchester Discovery Centre will include arts, live shows and something for all the family.

Art exhibitions include a display of 35 lithographic prints produced by the French artist Henri Matisse.

Produced in the last four years of his life, the exhibition will run from Saturday, January 14 to Sunday, March 18.

There will also be an exhibition in the City Space Gallery entitled This is My Home Now from Saturday, January 14 to Sunday, February 5.

It will include photographs and interviews from people now settled in England after fleeing their original homelands.

The Mayor’s Choice exhibition of paintings from the Winchester Museums’ collection will then take place from Saturday, February 11 to Sunday, March 11.

It will be followed in the City Space Gallery by Leg It, an exhibition of historical muscle-powered machines.

Other highlights include a display of photography by Jane Bown, which runs from Friday, March 23 to Sunday, May 13.

It will partly coincide with Winchester Photographic Society’s annual exhibition from Saturday, April 21 to Sunday, May 20.

As for live events, Barnstormers Comedy Nights will continue to be held on Friday evenings once every month.

The next shows will be on January 20, February 17, March 16 and April 13 and are usually hosted by Kevin Precious along with three other stand-up comedians.

Meanwhile, family storytelling shows are being planned on Sunday mornings on January 22, February 26, March 18 and April 15.

There will also be craft fairs at the Discovery Centre in Jewry Street from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, April 14 and Saturday, May 12.

Friday, January 27 will see a performance of Look Out! Southampton's Titanic Story in Song presented by White Star.

Other live events include outspoken GP and writer Dr Phil Hammond in Dr Phil’s Rude Health Show on Thursday, March 1.

The following evening, Winchester-based explorer John Pilkington will talk about his recent trek from Georgia to Afghanistan. He will also be at the Discovery Centre on Thursday, March 15 and Friday, March 30.

On Saturday, March 17, the venue will welcome Jamie Smith’s Mabon for an evening of live Celtic-influenced music.

Other highlights include the Winchester Chamber Music Festival, which runs from Thursday, April 19 to Sunday, April 22.

Many of the events will be at the Discovery Centre and will feature the London Bridge Ensemble along with special guests.

During the new season, there will also be lots of children’s shows and workshops, poetry, salsa dancing, and talks on subjects ranging from heraldry to archaeology.

Arts and crafts classes are also planned, along with courses on filmmaking and photography.
