COUNTY chiefs have asked officers to make a document more user friendly for the public.

Hampshire County Council is developing an Open for Business Plan 2011-2013 and hopes to distribute it widely to both council employees and members of the public.

Cabinet members yesterday approved the plan, but asked for a review to make ensure it was in plain English, not council-speak The document outlines the council’s ambitions and priorities and sets out a strategy for continued improvement, maximising opportunities and developing services over the next two years.

Priorities include enhancing community engagement, supporting and enabling sustainable economic development and improving customer service.

The report stated that performance against the plan for the first quarter of this financial year had been strong, that key changes and efficiencies were progressing well and the majority of savings for the year had already been secured.

Liberal Democrat councillor Jackie Porter, told the cabinet that the titles of the sections, if it was going out to the public, were rather council-like.

Deborah Harkin, head of performance, said a group of parents had already been asked their views on it, but it was agreed that Cllr Keith Mans (Cons) would do a further assessment.
