LORD Bragg of Wigton, known to millions as writer and broadcaster Melvyn Bragg, is appearing at the Winchester Festival on Saturday. (July 2) His lecture titled The Book of Books is based on his recent book about the King James Bible and the impact it has had on the world.

His talk is the third in an annual series on Great English-Language Makers for The English Project, a multi-million pound project to celebrate the evolution of the English language.

“We’re delighted to be able to welcome Lord Bragg to Winchester – he has written a moving account of one of the most influential books in the history of the world,” said Professor Christopher Mulvey, Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Winchester.

“The Book of Books reveals the extraordinary and still-felt impact of a work created 400 years ago. English speakers have taken 1,000 sayings from the King James Bible and these are used today by people who have neither read nor heard of it.”

The event takes place on Saturday at 3pm in Guildhall Winchester.
