FIREFIGHTERS from Alresford, Sutton Scotney and Stockbridge helped tackle a major fire in Basingstoke last night.

More than 20 crews from across north and central Hampshire were sent to the blaze in a timber framed building in Gershwin Road, Brighton Hill, which started at around 6.20pm and continued through the night into today.

The fire was quelled by breakfast time but damping down will continue.

An investigation is underway with fire investigation officers and the police to establish the cause.

I think it is terrible that so many of these retirement places are not sold throughout the south of England. You have to feel sorry for the developer who has probably had to demolish an old pub or something and now this!!!
Hope they are covered by Fire insurance????
