A BAR in Winchester is asking civic chiefs for permission to open until 2am.
The Slug and Lettuce in The Square is currently able to trade until midnight, with a 60-minute extension up to 12 times a year.
Police have to give permission for the extra hour each time, and officers are against the 2am application.
Another nearby pub and restaurant, The Old Vine, has also raised concerns that it might disturb people staying in its guest rooms.
An objection has been received from the Minsters Residents’ Association too, which represents the streets near the Slug and Lettuce.
The police are basing their objection on the venue not having security cameras. Officers argue that they are vital to prevent crime in late night bars and clubs.
Winchester City Council’s licensing committee is due to meet today (Thursday, September 9) to decide the matter.
Its members can approve the extension, refuse it, or suggest a time between midnight and 2am for the venue to close.
