A MAN who robbed a Winchester bank and then gave the money away has pleaded guilty to robbery.
Christopher Allnutt, 42, of Mount Pleasant Road, St Mary’s, Southampton, snatched £1,600 from Barclays Bank on August 17, Winchester Crown Court heard.
He handed most of it away before he was arrested outside the Old Gaolhouse less than 100 yards away on Jewry Street. Some £1,000 was still outstanding.
The case was adjourned for pre-sentence and two psychiatric reports. There will be an application for a hospital order under the mental health act. Sentencing is due on October 15.
Allnutt was remanded in custody by the Recorder of Winchester, Judge Keith Cutler, who said: “It was somewhat bizarre behaviour but no doubt very frightening for the ladies behind the till at Barclays.
“It is right that there should be a proper assessment of Mr Allnutt so such things don’t happen again.”
