ALRESFORD Rotary Club (ARC) has spent more than £3,000 helping victims of Pakistan’s devastating floods.
Club members braved heavy rain in Broad Street on Saturday (August 14) to collect £850 from townsfolk. The money will be used to by two shelter boxes, which include tents, cooking materials and blankets.
Then, following a meeting two days later, the group committed a further £2,400. This will fund the purchase of 16 water survival boxes, which include enough chlorine tablets to provide clean water for a family-of-four, for four months David Robinson, president of ARC, said: "We really appreciate the support that people gave on Saturday. Despite the rain, we got a very warm response. “People were reassured to know that the funds were all going to be spent directly on providing direct support in the flooded parts of Pakistan - with nothing wasted on overheads.”
