MANY people enter sponsored walks, cycle rides, or swims, but a group of Winchester mums are planning something different.
They intend to push their babies in buggies around a three-kilometre course to raise money for the National Childbirth Trust (NCT).
Organisers hope that up to 200 people might enter the event, which will start at Winchester Rugby Club off Nuns Road.
The three-kilometre course begins at the club, and is open to those pushing babies in buggies and also people cradling tots in slings.
Later on, the organisers are also planning a five-kilometre run as part of the family fun day.
Anna Horgan, one of the organisers, said: “The event is aimed at raising funds so we can help new mums who are finding breastfeeding their babies challenging and need somewhere to go for support and information.
“The weekly drop-in sessions with trained NCT breastfeeding counsellors at the Lanterns Children’s Centre, called Babies, are a lifeline for so many mums.”
The centre is based in Bereweeke Road, Winchester, and the fun day at the rugby club takes place on Sunday, August 1, from 9.30am onwards.
It will feature a fire engine crew, bouncy castle, refreshments, games stalls, raffle, and a guest appearance by the ‘Tooth Fairy’.
Several new mums at the Winchester NCT branch are organising it with the help of GetFit121 and Winchester Round Table.
It is being sponsored by JoJo Maman Bébé, a mother and baby shop that opened in St George’s Street, Winchester, earlier this year.
