CAMPAIGNERS are preparing for a demonstration in Winchester over a company’s involvement in Palestine.
They are calling for Veolia to be excluded from local refuse collection contracts because of alleged false information about its support for Israel on the West Bank.
The campaigners say they will protest outside a wildlife photography exhibition that Veolia is sponsoring at the Discovery Centre in Winchester from July 17-September 12.
They have written to Winchester City Council urging it to exclude Veolia (Veolia Environmental Services) from the upcoming contract for refuse collection, that will be a joint scheme with East Hampshire Borough Council.
In a letter to the-then council leader George Beckett, Angus Geddes said Veolia by running bus services from illegal settlements was aiding and abetting breaches of international law.
A Winchester City Council spokesman said: "We have noted the concerns regarding Veolia and are currently investigating the background to the situation and the legal position in terms of procurement law.
“A final decision will be made in advance of any invitations to tender which will take place during August."
