A TALK on 3 Rifles’ recent tour of duty in Afghanistan is being given in Winchester by their commanding officer.
Lt Col Nick Kitson, who went to Winchester College, will be returning there on Tuesday, July 6, for the fund-raising event.
He will be speaking about his own experiences while leading 3 Rifles Battlegroup’s time in Helmand Province between October 2009 and April this year.
Since being formed in 2007, the regiment has lost 53 soldiers killed in action, with nearly 300 seriously wounded on various tours of duty.
As a result, The Rifles Charities’ Care for Casualties Appeal, is looking to raise £1m.
The talk at Winchester College is part of that campaign, and estate agents, Savills, have agreed to sponsor the event.
Doors open at 6.45pm at the Queen Elizabeth II Theatre in Kingsgate Street and the talk begins at 7.30pm with a chance to ask questions afterwards.
Tickets cost £25 and include a glass of wine and can be bought by emailing tickets@careforcasualties.org.uk.
Otherwise, cheques payable to Care for Casualties Appeal can be sent to 3 Rifles Battlegroup Talk, Care for Casualties, RHQ The Rifles, Peninsula Barracks, Romsey Road, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 8TS.
