BISHOP’S Waltham community groups are set to benefit from a new support card scheme.
The Southern Co-operative has launched its community support card scheme at its two stores in the town.
The scheme will raise money over the coming year for Ridgemede Swimming Association, the Dynamos Sports Club and the Gateway Club.
These three local organisations were chosen to be the first recipients of the community scheme in the town by a panel of local people prior to the start of the fundraising period.
The scheme works through the Southern Co-operative donating to the fund when customers have their community cards swiped at point of purchase.
It has proved to be very successful at a number of other stores, and it is hoped that the target amount of £15,000 will be raised to benefit the organisations this year.
A launch event was held recently at Bishop’s Waltham Junior School, when over 300 people took part in free fun swim sessions, a football tournament and indoor games.
So far more than £750 has been raised.
The scheme has been launched as Sainsbury prepares to submit a planning application for a new supermarket in the town.
