THE Prime Theatre Company in Winchester is celebrating after the National Lottery awarded a £10,000 grant.

The group exists to give performers of senior years a chance to feel the limelight and show off their talents.

It also aims to encourage more senior citizens to come out and enjoy the theatre.

The group’s artistic director, Ros Liddiard, said: “We are so pleased to have won this award, which we will use to offer free tickets, and transport, to groups of older people.

“We believe it is important to enable people, particularly those who may not often have the opportunity to get out, to enjoy an afternoon or evening at the theatre.”

The group, which was launched in 2007, is currently working on its latest production, Thanks for the Memory.

The show features music from the 1930s to 1960s along with sketches and stories from the era.

The company hopes to take it on tour, and will be performing it at the Chesil Theatre in Winchester from Thursday, April 15 to Saturday, April 17.

For details of free tickets and transport for clubs and groups of senior citizens, call Ros Liddiard on 01962 861758.

Along with the National Lottery, Hampshire County and Winchester City Councils are both backing the free ticket scheme.
