Boost for polio vaccine campaign

AROUND £1,000 was raised in Winchester by the city’s Rotary Club in an effort to beat polio once and for all.

Rotarians across the globe are joining forces to fund enough vaccines to stamp out the crippling condition.

In Winchester, club members talked about the End Polio Now project at Peter Symonds College and also St Faith’s CE Primary School in St Cross.

They also took up a collection in the city’s High Street, and despite several rain showers they raised around £1,000.

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Dominic Hiscock, is also backing the campaign and took part in the event.

Every £1 collected will provide five doses of polio vaccine in the developing world.
