THIEVES grabbed valuable silverware from a safe in a church in Upham, near Bishop’s Waltham.
They struck at the Blessed Mary of Upham Church sometime between Wednesday, February 12, and Wednesday, March 3.
Three items were taken: a silver box, silver chalice and silver and mother of pearl Christening spoon.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have been offered similar items for sale to contact them.
PC Russell Collier said: “Any burglary is distressing to the victims, but the theft of items from a place of worship is particularly upsetting.
“The church is open to the community between 8am and 5pm, and worshippers can come in and use the church whenever they wish.
“The thieves have exploited this though, let themselves in and helped themselves to this silverware while the church is open.
Anyone with any information should contact PC Collier at Meon Valley police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
