A FAMILY from Alresford is celebrating after a much-loved horse was returned to them.
Lily, a 15’ 2” roan mare, is owned by the Hubble family and is usually kept at nearby Cheriton.
Daisy Hubble, 14, went to ride the horse on the afternoon of Sunday, December 6, at Colemore near Four Marks.
At 3pm, while the horse was being untacked, Lily ran off out of the blue.
The Hubbles searched high and low for the mare, and put out leaflets and a media appeal to find her.
Three days after Lily disappeared she was found by Wendy McComb from Eastleigh, who went looking for the horse.
Lily was found grazing in a field at Privett, about two miles away from where she went missing. The horse still had its saddle on, and was fit and well.
Dominic Hubble had been on the verge of taking a helicopter ride, offered by Peter Waldron, to start an aerial search for the horse.
He was due to take off on the same day that Lily was found, but he said bad weather delayed them.
He has now offered his thanks on the family’s behalf for everyone who went looking for Lily.
He said: “Our daughter, Daisy, is delighted, and would like to say thank you to Hampshire police, Horsewatch, local hunts, farmers and pony clubs, and to all the friends who came to help look for her, or who offered support.”
