MARK Oaten has quizzed Government minister Stephen Timms on why some rural areas have no broadband coverage.
At a select committee in Westminster, the Winchester MP asked when all residents in the district would be able to receive it.
The minister replied that total coverage should be available by 2012 along with faster speeds for existing customers, Mr Oaten said.
He is now repeating calls for improved coverage in rural areas, for instance, by using satellite technology.
He said: “Rural broadband connections can be incredibly frustrating and having no broadband at all can put individuals at a real disadvantage.
“I’m pleased I had the chance to challenge the minister on timetables for improving the service.”
