Pubs get local ale accolade

THREE pubs have received an award from real ale group, Camra, for stocking local beer.

It has saluted two pubs in Winchester, which are The Fulflood Arms in Fulflood and The Old Vine in The Square.

It has also recognised The Bugle Inn at Twyford, which reopened last year after a spirited campaign by villagers.

Camra is handing out 'LocAle' awards to pubs that always keep a barrel or two of local beer on the premises.

As well as supporting small brewers, it aims to reduce 'beer miles' to promote a greener way of doing business.

Ashton Gray, proprietor of The Old Vine, said: "We always have at least one local beer producer represented as it reduces food miles, transportation costs and benefits the environment and of course we're also supporting local businesses."

His venue usually stocks beer from Bowman's brewery in Droxford, the Flowerpots in Cheriton, or the Itchen Valley in Alresford.

All three pubs have already been included in Camra's 2010 Good Beer Guide.
