A COFFEE morning in Bishop's Waltham, held in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, raised a whopping £1,000.
The event, part of the 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' was held on Friday, September 26 at the Kings Centre, High Street Bishop's Waltham, and was organised by Sue Palmer and her friend Pauline Davenport.
Mrs Palmer said: " The 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' is such a great idea and it always takes place on the last Friday in September every year.
"Individuals and groups up and down the country were all having a coffee morning at the same time - and also raising funds for this very worthwhile charity.
"We are all touched at some point in our lives by someone we know and love being affected by this dreadful disease.
"Seven years ago my only sister died from cancer and more recently my very close friend. I consequently wanted to raise funds for Macmillan which provides vital services and support for those and their families who are affected by cancer."
She continued: "We originally began by running the coffee morning in my home, but over the years as the numbers increased we have held it for the last three years at the Kings Church Centre which is ideally placed on the High Street, Bishop's Waltham.
"This year, in spite of the economic downturn, it was our most successful year ever! It was hectic. The place was packed all morning with a wonderful atmosphere as people met up and enjoyed a coffee/tea with the delicious cakes and traybakes that were donated by friends.
"Pauline and I and our great team of helpers would like to thank everyone in the area who so generously supported us on the day and also to all the local shopkeepers who so happily donated such generous prizes to the raffle."
