New opening hours at recycling centres

7:26am Tuesday 30th September 2008

WITH the evenings drawing in and the leaves turning brown, Hampshire's recycling centres are changing their opening hours and reverting to the winter timetables.

Most of the county's household waste recycling centres stay open until 7pm during the summer months.

But, with darker evenings, the centres will now be closing at 4pm every day to avoid dangerous situations with people moving bulky household waste items around in the dark.

Hampshire's recycling centres will continue to be open seven days a week from 8am, with the exception of the Hedge End centre, which opens at 9am on Sundays and bank holidays.

The sites will, however, be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. The summer opening hours will resume on April 1.

The county's 24 recycling centres enable residents to recycle bulky household and garden waste.

They accept a range of household items for recycling or disposal, including green garden waste, furniture and electrical items.

Local household waste recycling centres are in Winchester, Bishop's Waltham, Eastleigh, Fair Oak, Hedge End, Efford near Lymington, Marchwood, Netley, Segensworth, and Casbrook near Romsey.
