GREEN-fingered plant and flower enthusiasts met last weekend as a firm fixture in the city's horticultural calendar got underway.
Winchester Horticultural Society Autumn Show took place at Badger Farm Community Centre on Saturday (August 30).
Among the competition categories were cookery, photography and crafts, as well as the traditionally green-fingered categories such as fruit, flower, vegetable and plant arrangements.
Entries were down this year, with around 180 entries, but this was mainly due to the poor weather this year, which has caused adverse growing conditions.
Show secretary, Kate Butler, said: "It was a very colourful display of all the entries and it looked really good. Everyone made an effort and in all we must have had around 100 people there throughout the day."
Winchester Horticultural Society was established in 1881 and membership has risen recently to 91 members.
It meets at Winchester club and has various lectures every month from plant, flower and gardening experts.
Members also take part in garden visits, coach trips and social events.
