A PROFESSIONAL golfer who plays on the Ladies European Tour officially opened a newly-revamped golf club and its new health club.

Cara Gainer cut the ribbon at The Club at Cams Hall Estate on Saturday, April 27 before answering questions from members about her career.

The Fareham site has had an investment of more than £7.5m from owners The Club Company.

It bought the club in 2019, and after Covid, the company started an ambitious scheme to modernise the existing club house and course, and also build a swimming pool and spa facilities.

The new spa has a 16-metre pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room with drench shower and ice experience, as well as a first-floor gym. It also has two studios hosting over 50 fitness classes per week, including yoga, group cycle, and Les Mills Body Pump.

Mark Warne, operations director, said the Fareham club was a welcome addition to the company's other 14 clubs and that despite some initial reservation from golf members at the start, now work has been completed, their reaction has been largely positive.

He said: "As a company, we are trying not to be a stuffy golf club, it is an inclusive and welcoming wellness site. It is a whole experience."

He said the health club has brought in more female members, as well as business to the bar and restaurant, which has been refurbished, extended and had an orangery built on it it.

Ladies captain Sharon Lawson, from Fareham, who has been at the club for eight years, said: "It has been transformed. It is like we are moving into a new era. We have a camaraderie at the club and golf is at the heart - and we have been sharing that with the new gym members."

She said: "It is really exciting that you guys have got a brand new health club. I always try and encourage all members to get into the health club and stay fit. Not only is it important for strength, that kind of fitness and flexibility helps prevent you getting injured."

An open weekend took place on both Saturday and Sunday, with tours being given to visitors.
