The Campaign for an English Parliament's introduction to the Winchester Proposal will be held at The Arc, in Jewry Street, on Wednesday, April 24 from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Talks will be given by campaign members Steve Davis and Mattanza Fedora. The Winchester Proposal is an idea for a parliament for England based in Winchester, the capital of England in the Anglo-Saxon and early medieval period.

On the group's website, it said: “We campaign for an English Parliament, meaning a parliament for the people of England, for whom England is their chosen or inherited home and who are legally entitled to vote.

“We campaign for an English Parliament with powers at least as great as those of Scotland’s, i.e. a Parliament and Executive (Government) that can make Acts (primary legislation) on the same domestic issues (e.g. health, welfare & education) that are devolved to the Scottish Parliament.

“The CEP works with academics, business groups, trades unions, think tanks and the media to create the conditions whereby UK MPs see that there is no alternative to the re-establishment of the English Parliament.”
