NEW photos show a large fly tip in the countryside near Winchester.

The dump is located on Fawley Lane, which runs from Morestead to Cheesefoot Head.

The dumped items, which have been there for more than a week, consist of household items, including clothes, plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, a pram and several shopping bags, including several from upmarket Waitrose.

Winchester resident Robert Carter called the site “one of the worst examples of fly-tipping I’ve seen around Winchester.”

He continued: “It has been there for over a week now.

“I can’t help thinking that the booking system that Hampshire County Council persists with at their local recycling centres doesn’t help with this type of fly tipping.

“As you can probably see from the photos it is a very odd selection of what appears to be household items, all of which could’ve been taken to the recycling centre.”

A Winchester City Council spokesperson said: “This fly-tip has been reported to us and our team is now in the process of removing it. Fly-tipping has a hugely negative impact on our communities, as well as causing untold harm to the local environment and wildlife, our team are now investigating the evidence to see if a prosecution can be brought forward. Witnesses are crucial to providing the necessary evidence and so, if anyone has witnessed this incident, or other fly-tipping incidents, we encourage them to come forward.

“We would ask anyone with any reports or evidence to submit it to us via the report form on our website - Fly-Tipping - Winchester City Council - or by contacting our Customer Services Team on 0300 300 0013.”
