I read with dismay in last week's Romsey Advertiser that Hampshire County Council are planning to close smaller tips around Hampshire including Casbrook tip.

We in Romsey really value having a tip nearby. It means less environmentally unfriendly bonfires, we are able to dispose of larger amounts of refuse quickly and easily and most of all it discourages fly-tipping!

Whenever I have used the tip it has always been busy with a very efficient time slot programme. I too support the view that the further you travel to tip the more greenhouse emissions will increase and that the roads in Hampshire will wear out even more.

The staff at Casbrook tip are enormously helpful and friendly, they are also very careful about green issues and recycling and a visit to this tip is ironically something to look forward to. If going to a tip meant driving to Winchester or Eastleigh and queuing up at a much larger tip I am pretty sure more people would be discouraged from using a tip. I myself would not fly-tip but I am sure it would encourage more fly-tipping if it was closed.

I completely support the town council's objections to Casbrook tip being closed and sincerely hope that HCC will look at more environmentally friendly ways to reduce their costs. Small and efficient tips are better than larger tips with queues.
