The intended move of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital to a site near Basingstoke defies description. What the hell are the planners thinking about?

I have just had excellent treatment as a patient in the A&E department and as I was considered to be an urgent case the ambulance with kind and caring paramedics got me there in quick time. The staff at the hospital were beyond excellence and I couldn't have been in better hands.

I wonder what the outcome would have been if I had to have been transported to Basingstoke? As it was I was quickly dealt with by a doctor, and was transported home later the same day. No way should we lose this magnificent hospital. I'm grateful that any victim involved in an RTA would be speedily dealt with at the RHCH!

Letter editor's note: The Royal Hampshire County Hospital is not moving to Basingstoke. The A&E unit and maternity are being downgraded to release specialist staff for the new hospital, but the RHCH will remain.
