Ampfield C of E Primary School is about to be closed down after 124 years of continuous education.

But it can be saved; readers can help.

The overwhelming reason is that pupil numbers are low so teachers are removed and those left have to teach classes of more than one age group. New Ofsted guidelines penalise this and the school will be failed.

Please write to Mark Saunders at Hampshire County Council ASAP and tell him that you are willing to join Friends of Ampfield School who will mount a promotional campaign to increase pupil numbers. Tell him that we need a delay of 18 months to achieve this and save the school.

The school has not been promoted for many years and Hampshire Education Committee is remiss in not helping. Furthermore, they have admitted in a Freedom of Information request that no money will be saved by closing the school.

Please write or e-mail immediately: strategicplanningunit@hants.gov.uk or Mark Saunders, Senior Strategic Planning Officer, Children’s Services, Ell Court North, Winchester, SO23 8UG.
