THE Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal volunteers will be collecting donations at Littleton Recreation Ground Car Park on Saturday, October 28 from 9am – 4pm. The parish council is urging people to give their support to help the armed forces community. Cash or card will be accepted.

THE Littleton and Harestock show committee has thanked all the volunteers who helped make last month’s event a success. Organisers are hopeful that the show has made a greater profit this year which will go towards the three beneficiaries, Barnie’s Kitchen at St Barnabas Church, Winchester and District Young Carers and Harestock Primary School.

LITTLETON and Harestock Gardening Club’s next meeting is on Wednesday, October 18 for a talk with Simon Goldsack on ‘The Making of a New Public Garden’.

The group meets every third Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm at Millennium Memorial Hall. Visitors and members hear from a guest speaker each meeting and have the chance to socialise with fellow gardeners.

SPARSHOLT Harvest Supper will be at the Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 14. Tickets must be bought by Monday, October 9 from Sparsholt Village Shop or Sally Wesley (776476).

Tickets cost £12.50 per adult or £30 for a family with children under 14. The event includes a quiz, raffle, drinks and the meal from 7pm. Visitors should inform Sally of any dietary requirements in advance.

SPARSHOLT Music’s winter concert will be on Sunday, December 3 at 3pm in the village hall. Tickets will be available from Saturday, November 11 and must be purchased by Friday, December 1. Event organisers said they could benefit from more volunteers to help make cakes.

The programme will include the first movement of Debussy’s violin sonata, a new piano trio playing Schubert, piano music and other surprises. For more information go to sparsholtmusic.org/.

‘THE Great Kings Worthy Clean Up – Autumn Litter Pick’ had a record attendance of 31 volunteers who returned with 24 bags of litter.

The clean-up effort on Saturday, September 30 included a new potting table for the children to plant bulbs to take home as well as certificates for taking part in the litter pick.

The next Kings Worthy litter pick will be in May.

THE Martyr Worthy Lecture Series will be back from Tuesday, November 28, starting with award winning author and historian Jessie Childs.

She will be talking about her book, The Siege of Loyalty House, a new history of the English Civil War, at Itchen Abbas and Avington Village Hall in aid of the Itchen Valley Parish churches. Drinks and canapes will be served from 6.30pm and the lecture begins at 7.15pm.
