A ROMSEY care home marked the King's coronation last weekend with a garden party.

Durban House staff decorated the home with red, white, and blue, laid on a buffet, and organised for local vocalist Caryn Curtis to sing a variety of well-known musical numbers.

The residents, many of whom remember the late Queen’s coronation back in 1953, were all eager to mark King Charles III’s ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Saturday May 6.

General manager Lucy Harrison said: “It was fantastic to see everyone getting into the party spirit in honour of our new king. It was also lovely to hear from residents about their memories of where they were and what they did for the Queen’s coronation back in the 1950s.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to our fabulous team for organising such a great event, and to singer, Caryn, who came along to provide some excellent entertainment. It has been a day to remember.”

Caryn Curtis is a professional singer from Totton. She’s been singing at venues across the region for 12 years.

She said: “Everyone at Durban House was very welcoming, and it was great to see not only residents, but all the staff joining in with the sing-along. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.”

Durban House is part of Sears Healthcare and CEO Richard Adams was pleased to hear that the care home could celebrate with the rest of the country at the weekend.

He said: “What a wonderful way to mark a special day. At Durban House, we are a nurse-led care home, so our approach focuses on providing a home-from-home for our residents while we meet their healthcare needs. I’m thrilled to hear how much fun they are having.”
