ALRESFORD Young Farmers club is celebrating after the successful return of its annual charity muck lug.

Taking place on Sunday, March 5, the event saw members set up outside The Christy Hall in Old Alresford to raise money for a pair of chosen charities. They raised £1,204.

The money will be split between The Farming Community Network, which aids farmers and families with practical and pastoral support across England and Wales, and Friends of the Family Winchester, a charity that offers a range of support services and guidance to overcome challenges faced by families.

Keen gardeners were able to collect manure from the group from 9am to 10.30am with prices ranging from £3 for a bag to £140 for a trailer. Delivery was also available in the Alresford area for those who had arranged it prior.

Alresford Young Farmers member Zoe Cotton said: “The well-rotted manure was kindly donated by local farmer, Simon Tickner from Upper Lanham Farm near Old Alresford, and was bagged and hand-delivered by our members to residents in Alresford and the immediate villages in bags, wheelbarrows and trailers.

“We'd like to extend our thanks to everyone who placed an order and made a donation this year and hope the muck helps their gardens to flourish.”
